I decided to write about this as I cannot find much information on
the internet that eases my mind, so maybe this will help someone, of
course, if my outcome is positive.
Here is everything I
can think of as symptoms and history. I'll try to make it as complete
as possible. I am 39. I had two pregnancies at 35 and 38, so I recently
gave birth to my second daughter, she is 6 month old. During late
pregnancy, I had anemia, I was not taking my vitamins and would not
tolerate the iron pills. I was feeling fine energy wise though. After
giving birth naturally, my anemia got even worse so I started taking
iron pills. I have gotten a bit constipated but not too much. I only
took one pill vs. 2 per day as recommended, so I did not constipate that
much. Later on, I started noticing blood in my stool. Only a little bit
on the paper and somehow I did not worry, who knows why?? I thought it
must be a fissure. Then one morning in early May of this year (2015), I
saw a lot of blood, as in drops on the toilet bowl and in the stool. I
freaked. I booked an appointment with my family doctor for next week
but when the day came, my appointment was cancelled based on a
technicallity about where (to which clinic) I should see my doctor. So I
went the same week on Saturday to a clinic close to home to see the
doctor on duty there. He said, must be some internal hemorroid, gave me a
cream and scheduled me for a rectoscopy to be done by a surgeon in 3
weeks. I also scheduled an appointment with my family doctor to the
right clinic for 3 weeks later. When I saw the surgeon, he did not do
the rectoscopy and said I should have a colonoscopy instead. Days later I
saw my GP who was not worried, said it was hemorroids, but I came out
of the office and scheduled a colonoscopy for June 19th.
So here I
am - a week before a colonoscopy. Other symptoms, I have lower back
pain, but I've had back problems since 18. OF course, we can always
explain all symptoms, but I am putting it all together. My stool is soft
and rather thin, and long, but sometimes fragmented. I also saw some
mucus. So when you put all these together and you type it on google,
colon cancer is everywhere. It does not help to ease my mind at all. I
panicked and sheer terror came over me. I picture my babies growing up
without their mom.
Now I have to focus on preparing
really well for the colonoscopy as if the colon is not clear, they won't
be able to see well. I need to have an answer on the 19th, so I keep
this goal in mind. Of course, I dread the prep, horrible - I need to
drink a gallon of this gross liquid, a glass every 10-15 minutes. I will
post all the details as I go through it. Also, I am planning of doing
the liquid diet 2 days before the procedure instead of just one. Maybe
it will help me clear out sooner. If what comes out is water, then I am
done.
